Summary/Abstract: In the article the author presents basic objectives and assumptions of the Critical Disability Theory. This approach has been totally absent in Polish sociology up till the present moment. Appealing to a critical perspective the author presents a disability concept adopted in interdisciplinary disability studies. The article deals with the questions that are fundamental from the perspective of CDT: psychosocial disability model, multidimensionality and diversity of the phenomenon of disability, human-rights based approach, the influence of language on shaping the image of persons with disabilities and the necessity to develop policies leading to a social change. According to the author such an approach to disability creates new possibilities for explaining the disability phenomenon and for solving social problems associated with this phenomenon.
