Summary/Abstract: The aim of the following study is a contrastive analysis of the two different types of epiphanic poetry – Cyprian Norwid’s and Czesław Miłosz’s. A closer analysis reveals a wide range of unexpected similarities. The epiphanic way of thinking, indirectly manifested in Norwid’s poem „Assunta”, shows that Norwid’s nineteenth-century poetics of rationalism truly corresponds with Miłosz’s ‘treatise metaphysics’, especially – „Treatise on Morality”. Moreover, the „Assunta”’s male protagonist has been presented by Norwid in a specific, ‘Miłoszian’ way – as an ironic scepticist affected by a nihilist language, but still… spiritually independent.
