Summary/Abstract: The world production of tobacco is increasingly being restricted for reasonsthat the World Health Organization (WHO) exposes in relation to its relationship withvarious diseases. However in Colombia this crop developed by about 17,000 familiesamong which are more than 1500 that are dedicated to the cultivation of black tobaccoin post-confl ict areas “Montes de Maria” with which another 3,500 families in the municipalityof Piedecuesta Santander , carry out the artisanal transformation of the blacktobacco leaf in factories and produce more than 27 million monthly of products such assemi-fi ne cigars, calillas, blunts and queens establishes that national and internationalpublic policy decisions must contemplate the socio-economic vision that is shown in thisarticle and that aims to open a space for refl ection on the implications of the prohibitionof sowing and transformation of the tobacco leaf in a country of tobacco culture andon which no integral programs of productive conversion have been developed, requiredto respond to the socioeconomic needs of this population and therefore This researchidentifi es variables that should be the support for the sustainability of the tobacco leaftransformation culture.
