Summary/Abstract: In this work some very important questions are addressed concerning the Bulgarian linguistic situation of sociolinguistic viewpoint. An overview of the language situation in today’s Europe is made with a special focus on globalization and the role of English in this process, taking into account the opinion that globalization is in fact Americanization. Finally, the status of the language situation in Bulgarian emigration is discussed.
