Summary/Abstract: The article attempts a comparative study of two poems: a Renaissance and a contemporary one, connected through a species of a tree, i.e. the linden. In both poems, the linden situates itself at the center of the poetic imagery. The article is particularly interested in the portrayals of the tree and the world of the poem created around it. Those two poems, written four hundred years apart, complement each other at the same time as they enter a dialogue concerning the place of nature in the life of man. Moreover, the search for the sources of inspiration allows to investigate the significance of the motif of the linden against the backdrop of the entire oeuvre of both writers.
