Summary/Abstract: One of the basic principles of the European Union whose member Bosnia and Herzegovina seeks to become is gender equality. The Amsterdam Treaty and numerous EU Directives oblige the States to contribute to the equality of women and men in their policies and programs. Gender equality is one of the 17 global goals of the Sustainable Development Program until 2030 which was adopted by the United Nations, as a result of the Millennium Declaration. The UN's most important document in the area of gender equality is the Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women.255 The abolition of discrimination against women and girls, as stated in the Program, is not only a fundamental human right but has multiple effects on other areas of development. Since 2013, BiH is also a party to the Istanbul Convention.
