Summary/Abstract: This article concerns the volume Wyspa klucz (The Key Island) by an acclaimed Polish reporter Małgorzata Szejnert. In her collection of reportage, the author rescues the stories from Ellis Island from being forgotten. Based on several individual biographies (including Robert Watchorn, Annie Moore, John Baptiste Weber, and Jόzef Jagielski), set against the background of broader issues (i.e. emigration, multi-nationality, homelessness, foreignness, mythicism, pursuit of happiness and a new life, and suffering), Szejnert attempts to tell a universal story to save the history of Ellis Island from fading into oblivion.
