Summary/Abstract: Andrzej Stojowski (1933–2006) was a prominent representative of the Galician movement in 20th century Polish literature. The article is initially devoted to the description of the reception of a volume of short stories entitled A Castle in Carpathia (1973), which includes the analyzed short story. “Siesta in Secession” constitutes for the author of the article not only a caricatural description of a well-connected parochial gentleman but also a description of the old world and its associated worldview. The story, then, can be regarded as a warm writerly goodbye to the place he had been writing about for a long time. Another notable feature of the short story is its nonchalance in its treatment of the literary form of the Sarmatian tale.
