Przerwanie milczenia jako opowiedzenie się po stronie pamięci. O wybranych utworach Martina Pollacka
Milczenie
The breaking of silence in support of remembrance. On selected works of Martin Pollack
Author(s): Bernadetta Darska
Subject(s): Polish Literature
Published by: Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Śląskiego
Summary/Abstract: The article considers the works of a well-known translator and journalist who, in his oeuvre, attempts to contend with the traumas of the past. The author explores not only the Nazi past of Austria, but also the history of his own family, his father in particular. This constant emphasis on memory results in the creation of extremely interesting works, in which the audience can witness the fight between oblivion and remembrance, personal and social context, responsibility or lack thereof, the consequences of seemingly neutral observation and the consequences of active participation. For all of these, silence is an important reference point. The breaking of silence constitutes the proof of the work of truth — by giving voice to the uncomfortable, difficult past, one stands on the side of the truth.
