Summary/Abstract: Jubilee books published by small local societies or institutions are often despised as neither artful nor meaningful amateur enterprises. However, as belonging to an epideictic genre, they can have a very important social function of building a group’s identity around certain values. This paper aims to explore what values are considered essential by local communities, how their worldview is expressed and how these declarations correspond with the performative character of jubilee books.
