Summary/Abstract: The paper presents reading as a unique process which is described as reading with responsibility. That is why it evokes a text by M.P. Markowski. Since the article focuses on literature in didactics it presents some works by K. Koziołek, A. Janus-Sitarz, and Z.A. Kłakówna, who discussed teaching literature to Polish students. As the main goal of the paper is considering reading literature in Polish as a foreign language class, basic elements of the dialogical model of teaching by C. Kramsch are presented, as well as the importance of teachers’ awareness about what kind of cultural background their students have. The author discusses also possible reader’s models by J. Spiro, which can be developed when teachers use literature during language class.
