Summary/Abstract: The aim of the study is to assess the importance and impacts of the model of agriculture on rural development. This study employed mixed quantitative and qualitative research design. The quantitative part presupposes the presentation and analysis of statistics on agriculture and rural development in the period of EU membership. Qualitative methods include the use of the experts evaluation method and in-depth interviews with 25 specialists from the regional office ―Agriculture‖ and the regional office of the National Agricultural Advisory System in the South Central Planning Region (BG42). Respondents are from the five districts of the region (NUTS- 3). Thе rеsеarch lеading to thеsе rеsults has rеcеivеd funding from thе Bulgarian Sciеncе Fund - projеct DN 15/8 "Sustainablе multifunctional rural arеas: rеthinking agricultural modеls and systеms with increased rеquirеmеnts and limitеd rеsourcеs" (2017-2020).
