Summary/Abstract: This report aims to examine the financial instruments’ role in the EU’s budget allocation and to what extent they would become an alternative to grants. For this reason, the study is divided into three parts. The first one gives a brief overview of the main features of the Regional policy and the provision of grants. The second part presents the financial instruments and their mechanism of functioning. The third part analyzes the financial instruments’ advantages over grant funding.
