Summary/Abstract: As expected, the Senate voted on 5 February to acquit President Donald Trump on abuse-of-power charges. This ended the impeachment process that resulted from the attempts to persuade Ukraine to investigate, and thus harm, Joe Biden, Trump’s potential rival in the November presidential election. Acquittal increases Trump’s chances of re-election but the Democrats will certainly use information about his involvement in the election campaigns this year.
