This article discusses the exegetical work of St. John Chrysostom. Although in the present someauthors are reluctant to acknowledge his absolute primacy in the patristic exegesis area, justifyingtheir choice with the lack of theological depth seen in Origen or Gregory of Nyssa, probably due totheir af liation to the Antiochian exegetical school, St. John Chrysostom still remains an undeniablelandmark in the hermeneutical approach of the sacred text. As a tireless preacher and interpreterof the Word of God, he used his homilies for scriptural exegesis, thus preaching and explainingentire books from the Holy Bible. His literary work has proven to be an extensive one, summingup a considerable number of treaties, letters, homilies and eulogies spoken either in Antioch or inConstantinople, occasionally or in speci c circumstances. Of all his literary work, most of his writingswere homilies, those speeches through which he tried to explain to the people he shepherdedalmost the entire Holy Scripture. To his listeners, he strongly recommended reading of the HolyScripture as a way of improving their spiritual life.

In this study, I tried to capture the presence of some multiple reading ”layers” in the novel The Forbidden Forest, by Mircea Eliade. In my opinion, the mythical depth substrate is deeply hidden by the writer and it reffers neither to Indian myths, nor to Iranian ones, but to Romanian legendary background Therefore, I will try to emphasize that Eliadeʹ s novel remakes a tragic love story – in the sense of Greek tragedy – of the two luminaries, the Sun and the Moon, the protagonists of Romanian ancient beliefs.

In this study I realized an esoteric interpretation of the character names in Forbidden Forest by Mircea Eliade. I identified some hidden cabalistic erotica, even though some researchers believe that Romanian religion history man was not interested in Kabbalah. In any literary work, the character names have a higher or lower importance, both in the epic construction and in the personal shaping of the characters. Mircea Eliade was a hermeneutic researcher fascinated by the mystery and he couldn`t miss the chance to encode a mystery in the names inviting the reader to discover it. Eliade`s erotica isn`t combed, in the proper sense of the term, but initiatory, revealing and transcendent.

This article addresses two phenomena of contemporary literature from Southeastern Europe: the assertion of the novel of social persuasion and of the novel of manners. The authors focus their attention on the woman’s fate and the child’s fate in the contemporary world. Social and domestic violence against the woman and the child psychological and physical abuse are thematic axes in the novels of Ukrainian writer Oksana Zabuzhko, Romanian novelist and writer Doina Ruşti, and the Romanian writer, from Republic of Moldova, Liliana Corobca.

In this article, I analyzed La țigănci short story, by Mircea Eliade, in terms of Platonic myths. From this perspective, Gavrilescu crosses a rite of passing over, through which would have succeeded the much wanted liberation of the human condition. He misses this initiation though because he remains tributary to some truths that do not belong to him, to some human and social pre-judgments that prevent him from living his life according his destiny of an artist. This short story catches Eliade’s pessimism regarding the capacity of the uninitiated human to wake up and free himself in life, in the absence of an initiated one.

The Forbidden Forest is a complex novel, structured on two story lines, according to the two dimensions of existence – sacred and profane – which are in a relationship of permanent complementarity. Therefore, in the „profane” plan of existence, the characters have an absolutely insipide social life, according to the „rhythms” of their historical time, whereas in the sacred dimension of the life seen as fate, they are subconsciously involved in archaic, long ago „forgotten” rites, as in the case of the eternal return myth. In this article, I have identified in the intimate structure of The Forbidden Forest the presence of the stages of this mythical scenario displayed by Mircea Eliade in a scientific essay written and published simultaneously with the period of elaboration of the novel mentioned above.

XXIst century was named for good reasons ”the century of speed”, ”World Wars Era”, ”Post-Christian Era”, ”the time of the death of God”. XXIst century inherits these spiritual, social and economic vices. Unfortunately, the anti-work of destruction of man goes on, in an almost diabolical way. All the world Religions, mainly the Christian denominations, fight for man’s re‑humanization, make substantial efforts to overcome the materialistic deadlock of human life in view to its verticalization and spiritualization. The decadence is generated by the lack of landmarks – the true crisis that today’s man is struggling with, as we read in the Great Canon of St. Andrew from Crete: «The law has no power over you, O, my soul! You have made the Gospel fruitless and scorned the Scriptures!”. Man does not look up to God anymore and no longer obeys His commandment of love, although He looks with mercy on us, watches over this world and calls it to perfection. Man has lost the authority of the civil law, which he does not obey anymore. Especially today, there are no more charismatic leaders with morality and a symbol of divine authority which is expressed through its chosen ones. In the past, this was the emperor or the king: ”Lord’s Anointed”. The present study wants to rediscover the liturgical ritual which is forgotten today: the coronation service of the king or emperor. Except for some byzantine sources, among which we mention ”The treaty of St. Simeon of Thessalonica”, the late references of Dimitrie Cantemir from his ”Descriptio Moldaviae” or the contributions of some more recent authors (Umberto Ecco, Jean Claude Schmitt, March Bloch, Richard Jakcson, Robert Hertz, Jean Maisonneuve), the subject is still not fully discussed. The pages that follow are a synthesis of those sources, try a semiotic theological-liturgical analysis of the rituals and point out two of the most illuminating moments from the History of the modern Romania: the coronation of King Carol I and King Ferdinand I.

In this article, I treated the various hypostases of the femininity and of the masculinity present in the novel A Woman for Apocalypse, by Vintila Horia. Blanca and Manuel form a revelation-couple of the primordial unity, found through a painful initiating "path" of self-knowledge and of knowledge of the other. Love is revealed in successive stages according to each gnoseological level achieved, on an inevitable vertical that unites the bacchanal of senses with the apollonian of transcendental beatitude. The feminine of the biblical term Apocalypse, as a revelation of the end of the world and the punishment of evil, is replaced by the Romanian writer with the neutral term of the Apocalypse, in which the intransigent and categorical masculin learns from a woman the values of a new ontology - hope, forgiveness and love.

Sexuality has not really become "bad" except through the influence of Christian morality that demonizes the body and its "natural" instincts caused by the magnetic attraction of woman's beauty. The Romanian tale "Țugulea, fiulunchiașuluiși al mătușii" preservesequally the metaphysical dimension, the magical and ritualistic implications of sexuality in the complex process of male maturation, converting them into "story". Sexuality was considered very important, because it was directly related to fertility and, inevitably, to the perpetuation of life. As a result, since ancient times, specific rituals and rites (such as the rites of passage) have been practiced, through which boys were initiated to become men and the girls, wives and mothers. Associated with the night and, inevitably, its stars, with the subterranean darkness, its underground waters and its monstrous lives, female sexuality has been tabooed and loaded with countless negative stereotypes, so many fears of the masculinity, poetic connotations in the fairy tale through "tests", "thresholds" or "bridges" that must to be passed by the naive and ignorant young man to become a man.

Its purpose is to elaborate a description of the tense system of the Romanian verb in the indicative mood. This description will serve as the basis for a contrastive study of the verbal systems of the languages of the Balkan Linguistic Union, which will be developed by a team of linguists in the next stages of the project.

In the annuals of the Pedagogic-Theological Institute in Sibiu for the years 1899 and 1900, professor Daniil Popovici Barcianu published several previously unknown rhymed productions, which he identified as juvenilia of the Sibiu-based lawyer and writer Vasile Aaron (1780-1821). These writings had been found among the manuscripts left behind by professor Barcianu’s father, Sava Popovici Barcianu, scholar, priest in Răşinari and counsellor of the Orthodox Consistorium in Sibiu. The copy pertaining to the clergyman in Răşinari included eight pieces of text, six of which were mythological writings, adaptations after Ovid’s Metamorphoses. Barcianu only published five of these legends, and even the published ones remained available to a very limited readership. Aaron’s arrangements after Ovid prove once more the attachment shown by the scholars of that time for the „ancestral” Latin literature and are also a perfect example of the Enlightenment concept that states the intellectuals’ plight to work towards the moral edification of the common people. Standing evidence for this are the teachings accompanying each of the legends, where the author feels compelled to give his readership advice and guidance for life.
