Physics concerns what we can say about nature. Therefore the world as we present is a construction of our perception, of our sensation, of memories. In the same way spirituality is our basic quest for cognitive understanding of ultimate meanings and values in life. We seek explanations for how we have come to be who and what we are. Spirituality is also a felt-sense; an inner, intuitive knowing of who we are; a deeper awareness about place in relationship to the world of our senses; and an awareness of how we fit into a vaster world beyond our physical selves and sensory reality.

This article refers to traditions and culture of Old Believers (Russian: староверы or старообрядцы, starovery or staroobryadtsy) in Poland. Old Believers separated in 1654 from Russian Orthodox Church as a protest against church reforms. They were persecuted and forced to emigrate. To Poland they arrived from Pskov and Nowogród. Modern-day Old Believers in Poland live in the three areas – around Augustów, Suwałki and Masuria. Initially they followed Old Believer’s traditions (e.g. they refused to stay in hospital). Now we can see assimilation with the Polish culture. In this article described elements related to Old Believers faith (e.g. molenna, prayer, icons, canonical collection of texts) and elements related to everyday life (e.g. folklore, clothes, food e.t.c.). This article is based on Bachelor Thesis of Natalia Gburzyńska.

More and more seems to indicate that a return of the category of loftiness can be the object of interest for an historian dealing with Polish contemporary art and that the concept in question continues to assume ever new contents here and now. Naturally, the present-day reoccurrence of loftiness takes place against the backdrop of the astonishing worldwide career enjoyed by the titular concept in recent decades. The author of the article, which is a brief review of assorted current artistic realisations conducted from a sublimicising viewpoint, ponders the course and formula in which this category renders its presence known in art and pertinent statements. Apparently, on the Polish contemporary scene loftiness returns in a specific edition vividly tinted with the intuition of a catastrophe.

It is possible to measure values and religiosity of population through imagination and behaviour of individuals. The study is based on the result of Aufbruch research from Central and Eastern Europe. Values of religiosity are divided into three dimensions, namely personal religiosity, contents of faith and relationship with the Church. This is why the figures can be helpful when it comes to direction of priorities of pastoral theology in Slovakia.

The paper examines the relation between the Gospel and Canon Law. In the contemporary mentality, the Gospel and Canon Law are often perceived as opposing one another. Such reasoning arises from incomprehension of the nature of Canon Law. The author recalls the Address of Pope Francis to the officials of the Tribunal of the Roman Rota on the inauguration of the judicial year, in which the Pope stated: The juridical dimension and the pastoral dimension of the Churchs ministry do not stand in opposition, for they both contribute to realizing the Churchs purpose and unity of action, to emphasize that the Church also has a juridical dimension. Subsequently, the author discusses the anti-juridical current in the Church and the Gospel foundations of Canon Law. The Gospel is the source of Canon Law and hence they should not be opposed. In conclusion the author affirms that the purpose of both the Gospel and Canon Law is the salvation of man, as is stated in the can. 1753 of the Code of Canon Law. As a consequence of existence of juridical relations in the Community of the Church, rules are necessary to guarantee justice.

In this article, we compare the basic principles that underlie five complete Russian translations of the Qur’an, made during the 20th century. We reveal that: 1) the translation by I.Yu. Krachkovskii is characterized by philological accuracy and the compliance with the historical epoch, and it has preserved its value up to our days; 2) M.-N.O. Osmanov sought the clarity of the text of the Muslim Holy Book; 3) B.Ya. Shidfar tried to exactly convey not only the factual side of the Qur’an but also its artistic features; 4) the versifications by V.M. Porokhova and T.A. Shumovskii distort the text of the Qur’an from all points of view. In conclusion we present five translations of Surah 101 “Al-Qari'a”.

The aim of the article is to present the Sacrament of the Sick in the context of its recipients, who include elderly people. The Sacrament is often mistakenly associated by the faithful with the moment of death, becoming an expression of powerlessness against death and the last event of one’s Christian life. In view of the doctrinal statements of the Church Magisterium however, the Anointing of the Sick does not necessarily have to be applied to the dying and its reception does not mean the termination of life. The anointment is the sacrament designed for the sick and for those who painfully experience their old age, and its grace may assist in suffering an illness or various impairments of old age. Being an elderly person makes one eligible to receive the sacrament, although pastoral experience shows that this possibility is not taken advantage of to the full extent. The first part of the article presents historical and doctrinal approaches to the Sacrament of the Sick: starting with the obligation to anoint the sick found in the Letter of Saint James, through the Middle Ages, the accomplishments of the Synod Of Trent, up to the latest teachings of the Magisterium. Subsequently, on the basis of the Catechism of the Catholic Church, the analysis of the Sacrament of the Sick is made from the charitological perspective. The grace of the sacrament of anointment given to elderly people can have many dimensions and can provide them with an opportunity to experience their old age in relation to the sphere of “sacrum”. After this analysis the article shows the anointing in terms of providing support to elderly people in relation to two essential problems connected with “the third age”, i.e. social and psychological problems. Sacramental grace may provide support to cope with them.

Bishop Julian Wojtkowski, the retired assisting Bishop of Warmian Archidiocese, as well as the retired professor of Theology in the Department of Theology at Warmia and Mazury University in Olsztyn, has bestowed on the admirers and historians of Philosophy and Medieval Theology and other aficionados, the Polish translation of the work by Peter Lombard, priceless for history and theology: Sententiae in IV libris distinctae – Four Books of Statements (Volume I – Olsztyn 2013, pp. 638; Volume II – Olsztyn 2015, pp. 695). It seems that this circumstance is a worthy reason to recall the person of Master Peter and his work, especially because his great work has not received as much attention as it should have. This article describes the life of Peter Lambert and his existential- theological scholarly work. Special attention – according to the title – is brought to the most famous of his works, that is Quatuor libri sententiarum, which marked the end of a few centuries, from Boecjusz – the existing model of the study of literature as the collection and organized statements of the recognized authorities which was visible in the development of this genre of scholarly literature, from the set of quotes to Books of Statements organized thematically which then would transform into a great sum. We are not surprised by the fact that in the work of Peter Lombard the level of Eastern and Western patristic knowledge is reflected, and due to its overall characteristic it has become the textbook for University Philosophical and Theological Studies from almost the beginning of its publication till the end of the Council of Trent, and that also explains the many commentaries to Libri sententiarum of Peter Lombard

The article describes the divergent religious and secular speech-behavioral tactics of denunciation of a delict (pride, idolatry, false interpretation of human rights) in the teachings of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill. It is proved that the discrepancy in the tactics in secular and religious cultures is determined by the “religious and moral indifferentism” supported by the influence of the Western ultra-liberal standard.
