The author of this article attempts to describe and explain the status and role of the female characters in poetry and life of an “older” symbolist, Valery Bryusov. The mythological origins of women in his works are to underline that the poet draws on the classical literature. The mythological characters, functioning in the Western societies as cultural models, play similar role and the poet takes them as his point of departure to present the symbolist perspective on women. Moreover, Bryusov follows the ideas of free, and at the same time scandalous, French symbolism, which he tried to introduce into the Russian social and artistic life.

The subject of this paper is the attempt of analysis and characteristic of female characters in Sadur’s prose. The analysis is based on scheme love — hate — eroticism and is related to heroines from works written in 90. in the beginning of the 21st century. The problem of mutual relations between women and men and the topic of feminisation of the author’s writing are here also touched upon.

The theme of snow/ice, as one of the emblems of Russia, prevails in the works of Vladimir Sorokin virtually as a constant. Depending on the period and direction of the author’s artistic explorations, it acquires different meanings. Initially, it facilitates the deconstruction of classical discourse, but gradually it transforms into a symbol of power founded on violence to eventually become an inextricable part of the metaphor of Russia’s imminent death.

Przeciw entropii. Saszy Sokołowa gry z czasem

In each of three novels by Sasha Sokolov, the category of time plays a vital role. In “A school for Fools”, “Between Dog and Wolf” and “Palisandriia”, the writer consistently explores “the philosophy of time.” In this article, the analysis focuses on the work titled “Between Dog and Wolf” since it is a text in which Sokolov intensifies his creative strategy. The writer is interested in time as a philosophical category, as well as anthropological, artistic, cultural and existential ones. By placing the category of time in the space of a game, the author of “A school for Fools” creates hybrid, processual and heterogeneous space-time of elements that permeate and interact with one another. “Games with time” deconstruct binary oppositions, such as linearity — cyclicality, temporality — atemporality, finiteness — eternity. At the same time the richness of language games becomes a generator of ambiguity, which destroys any homogeneous closed systems when they get deprived of the stimulating “difference”.

The Reception of Dostoevsky in Romania and the Influence of Soviet Marxist Criticism

The paper addresses the way in witch Dostoevsky's works have been published and interpreted in Romania during the communist regime, particularly in the period 1945-1970. Using content analysis and comparative analysis, the attempt is to identify the main constitutive elements of the Marxist-Leninist paradigm through witch the texts of the Russian writer were approached by the literary Romanian critics and to investigate the influence of the Soviet literary critics. In the early years of the communist regime, Dostoevsky's novels were often accompanied by exegetical texts of the Soviet critics and the premise is that the Romanian critics used similar elements in their approach.

К созданию и интерпретации "Мудрости древних чехов" Р. Якобсона и полемика в чехословацкой эмиграции во время Второй мировой войны

The paper examines the origin and interpretation of the forgotten monograph Moudrost starých Čechů [Wisdom of the Old Czechs], written by Roman Jakobson, the renowned structuralist and member of the Prague Linguistic Circle, in American exile in 1943. Obviously intent on highlighting the importance of Church Slavonic literature for West Slavic nations, Jakobson goes beyond structuralist discourse and through his anti-German attitude contributes to the debate on the sense of Czech history within Slavonic/non-Slavonic Central Europe, i.e. in the geopolitical area between the East and the West. With no less attention does the paper track down the dissenting response Jakobson's work received from the Czechoslovak expatriate community in the USA.

Языковой образ-концепт Украина в современных русскоязычных СМИ

The article attempts to outline the specific fragments of the linguistic image-concept of Ukraine represented in contemporary Russian media. There is made a study of some semantic groups in the concept structure as well as of their pragmatic, semantic and onomasiological specificity of the ratio of informative, emotive and expressive component of names. Here there are investigated the semantic conversions of units serving to form a complete image-concept of Ukraine and Ukrainian reality in the minds of Russian readers as well as the certain new names which arose as a result of the Euromaidan events. The study is based on the material of the Russian-speaking Internet publications, blogs and forums, representing the Eastern Slavic informational space.

Mehanizacija čovjeka i oduhovljenje stroja u talijanskome futurizmu i u ruskoj proleterskoj književnosti

The idea of the convergence of man and machine is characteristic for the Italian futurism as well as for the Russian proletarian literature. The role of electricity and neoanimism which is relevant in both cases may be traced back to romantic vitalism. On the one hand Marinetti ascribes animation and emotion to inanimate matter and, on the other, he calls for the reduction of human psychology. Similar features can be found in proletarian poetry in Russia. But whereas the futurist body-machine is distinguished by aggressive dynamics and the stimulation of vital energy, the metaphorical fusion of man and the machine in Russia emerges from the ideology of collectivism and “productionalism”. In proletarian poetry, the affinity of the worker and the machine is described in terms of friendship and family relations while for Marinetti it has an erotic bias.

Dana 20. januara 1908. g. Tolstoj je zapisao u svom Dnevniku: „Počeo sam pisati studiju “O nazatku, nevjerovanju i neprotivljenju”. Prvo je studija „Zakon nasilja i zakon ljubavi“ objavljena, skraćena na intervenciju cenzure, u listu „Kievskie vesti“ 1909. U kompletnoj verziji je objavljena u izdanju „Svobodnoe slovo“ (Christchurch, Engleska, 1909.). Znamo da je Tolstoj umro 1910. godine. Možemo se složiti s primjedbom A. Guseinova da je ta studija Tolstojevo „duhovno zavještanje“.

У XX вијеку се пред човјечанством акутније појавило питање о судбини природе. Зелени масив Земље неумољиво се смањује. Некада су градови, утеви, фабрике, аеродроми били тек мрље на зеленој површини планете. Сад су те мрље недирнута природа. Са усавршавањем средстава узимања и прераде природних производа д отада невиђено су се појавили размјери одбацивања тих производа — већ у виду расхода — на Земљи и у њеном ваздушном појасу (истрошени гасови свих врста мотора и горива, отпаци хемијских фабрика). Све више загађују свјетски океан нафтним прерађевинама и неуништивим синтетичким пловећим отпацима. У вријеме путовања на ≪Ра≫ 1969 г. Тор Хајердал и његови сапутници су видјели потресне призоре — океан, загађен свакојаким смећем ( tога није било прије 20 година — у вријеме првог научниковог путовања на ≪Кон-Тики у≫). Умире животињски свијет; десеци врста су ишчезли сасвим и њих никада више неће видјети будућа покољења људи.

Wenecja – miasto skazane na zagładę w opowieści Diny Rubiny Vysokaa voda veneciancev

The article is devoted to the analysis of spatio-temporal elements in Dina Rubina’s story Vysokaa voda veneciancev ˆ [The High Water of the Venetians]. They are closely related to the theme of death. Venice is shown in the work as a dying city, falling into decay. Signs of destruction are clearly visible in the city landscape, and the space of Venice is largely shaped by thanatic symbolism. However, in the image of this city we will not find infernal features so often found in the European literary tradition. Venice is not a ghostly city of death, but a refuge where the heroine can forget about the traumas of the disease and get used to the idea of finality. The passage of time also reminds us of the inevitable end of existence, both in the general and in the individual dimension. Time here has a palimpsest character, which allows us to feel its continuity, shows the coexistence of the present with the past, making us realize the inevitability of the passing.

Метафоризация и безумство: «Красный цветок» Вс. М. Гаршина

The paper deals with the theme of madness in the short story by Vsevolod Garshin A Red Flower in a different perspective than in critical literature. The focus is not on the psychiatric problem but on the process of creating a discourse of the mental disease. During the analysis of the text, some references are also given, for example, to The Dream of a Ridiculous Man by F. Dostoevsky or Ward No. 6 by A. Chekhov. The inter-textual connections with these stories are based on the idea of improving the world and on the process of its metaphorical renaming. However, it is emphasized that Garshin’s story does not observe either the hero’s criticism and rethinking of his idea to save the world by demolishing it or the creation of a personal narrative about it.

Концептуализация судьбы в творчестве Ф. М. Достоевского

Undoubtedly, Dostoevsky’s works have a great influence on the worldview and in particular the linguistic image of the world of modern Russian people, so it is interesting to consider basic concepts of Russian linguistic culture in Dostoevsky’s writings. The aim of this study is to identify the features of the representation of the concept of fate in the works of this great writer. The subject of the study is the contexts in which the keyword судьба ‘fate’ is used in Dostoevsky’s novels The Idiot and The Brothers Karamazov. In the paper, the authors analyzed 40 examples of the contextual use of this concept in the first and 57 examples in the second work as well as its synonyms доля ‘share’, жребий ‘lot’, удел, участь ‘destiny’, провидение ‘providence’, and рок, фатум ‘doom’. In the paper, the methods of conceptual and contextual analysis are applied. The conceptual component of the concept of fate in Dostoevsky’s works is presented as a sequence of events in a person’s life and after his death in the form of a soul, so it is related to the concept of God. The figurative component of the concept of fate in Dostoevsky’s works is expressed by the idea of fate as a living being that can actively perform any actions in relation to a person, for example, to be favourable to him, or, conversely, cruel. The value component of the concept of fate in Dostoevsky’s works is mainly represented by a description of what a person can do with his own fate and the fate of other people, for example, to share their fate with them or to take part in the fate of others as well as the idea of the justice of fate, associated with the idea of the justice of God’s judgment.

Проблемы поэтики раннего Чехова в соотношении с газетным дискурсом. Список как формат текста

The paper examines some features of Chekhov’s early poetics (1880–1885) in comparison with the newspaper as a discourse contemporary to his time. In the first half of the 1880s, the daily newspaper emerged as the dominant organ in the new system of the press. This was also the birth of mass communication in Russia, a necessary part of which was the emergence of “the small press”, i.e. the sphere of humorous journals, thin magazines, and daily newspapers in which Chekhov began to publish his works. The paper also summarizes the outcomes of the studies that reconstructed the cultural space of Russian newspapers and magazines of the period in question. The concept of “newspaper discourse” is introduced for the purposes of comparison and understood in the paper as a new and unified space that aims towards a universal modelling of the world through the production of texts. Newspaper discourse as a term is different from the concepts of “the small press” and “journalism”. At the end of the first part, the paper discusses the notions of discursive practice and interdiscursivity as one of the types of intertextuality defined by N. Fairclough.
