The purpose of this research is to make a preliminary analysis of the possibility of „many worlds“ interpretations that can be found in the works of different authors with important roles for the formation of the Byzantine philosophical thought. The main thesis is that there is a recursive implicit idea for a modal plurality in the act of Creation, which forms an „intellectual background“ for different philosophical discourses in Byzantine philosophy, and that such idea can be deduced from them as their consequence or prerequisite.

The article presents the dramatic events before and during the fall of Constantinople into the hands of the Turks, from the perspective of Gennadius Scholarios, the first Ecumenical Patriarch after the fall of the Byzantine Empire. First, the author tries to depict the historico-political and religious context of Constantinople in that period of conflict between the two main factions: the pro-Western and pro-Catholic one which promoted church union with Rome as a way of saving the Empire from the Turks and the other one which considered the union with Rome as betrayal of Orthodoxy, taking Westerners promises as empty words and promoting resistance by themselves in front of the Turkish danger. Leader of the latter (according to its teachers, Joseph Vriennios and St. Marcus Eugenicus), Gennadius Scholarios becomes the victim of a systematic campaign of defamation by the Western historiographers and by the writers swayed by it. In this regard, the article tries to answer the accusations brought to this important ecclesial figure, Gennadius Scholarios, especially regarding his attitude of passivity and dissuasion of the people in the fight against the Turks. To do this, the author uses - in addition to several secondary sources - especially stories and testimonies from the writings of Gennadius himself, writings that put into dramatic and eloquent words that tragic period in the history of the Greek people and of Orthodoxy in general.

Caracteristicile misiunii creştine în viziunea protopopului Grigore Pletosu (1848-1932)

Grigore Pletosu, teacher at the Romanian Border guards Gymnasium from Năsăud (1878-1909), orthodox clergy and archpriest of Bistrița (1909-1932), president of the scholar section of Transylvanian Association for Romanian Literature and Culture of Romanian People - ASTRA (1902-1911), and founder, together with Nicolae Bălan from the Theological Journal of Sibiu, first scientific journal of theology in Transylvania, is almost unknown today, although he was the first literary critic of the poet George Coșbuc and of the first patriarch Miron Cristea and mentor of Metropolitan Bălan. This is the reason why, using documents provided by different Archives (as Bistrița-Năsăud Districtual Direction, Sibiu Districtual Direction, Metropolis of Sibiu and Cluj), the author tries to rediscover Grigore Pletosu’s personality. This study presents the way he understands the Christian Mission. Texts from his preaches, but also other studies he published, as well as manuscripts about and of him are presented and analysed to see which were the characteristics of the christian mission in his conception. The role of education and culture is one of the most important in this activity, but, in his conception, mission is based also on respect, strong faith and dynamism. He is not just a theoretician of those principles, but also a man who lived by them.

As for matters of internal discipline, our Church has applied, in time, canonical provisions from modern Romania imbedded with norms foreseen in Disciplinary Court and Trial Regulations in 1926 and 1949. They have been issued by the church authority in compliance with Laws of Cults and Church Statuses in 1925 and 1948-1949. The 1949 Regulation was updated several times and was still enforced until 2015. A number of 17 sense and shape provisions present in this article have been acknowledged from amendments brought by the Timişoara Archbishopric.

Generally, the teachings of John Chrysostom about the correct use of wealth are still used by the Church today. He has believably set forth God’s will on these aspects, facing a strong opposition at that time. Eventually, he has been made a martyr for these beliefs. It would be wise for Christians today to adopt such a faith and boldly proclaim God’s teaching on the wealth of the rich society around them, no matter the resistance against this message.

Religion and science are two fundamental disciplines for human understanding of life. During time, the two seem to be antagonist and to exclude each other. Almost 2000 years have to surpass for the conclusion that in fact religion and science are not in opposition, for the simple fact that these two are looking and praising for the work of God in Universe. The author considers that there is no need for a renewal of Theology, but a spiritual renewal of theologians, a return to confession and God, by means of invoking the Holy Spirit in prayer, in order to offer light to the mind and soul, in view of assuming the modality of belonging to the Parents of the Church. They managed to torment for 460 years (325-787), promoting and emphasizing Christian history like very few other events. The issue of Ecumenical Synods preoccupied and continues to preoccupy church management, a range of theologians, as well as servants and believers, due to the fact that, in the historical past, Ecumenical Synods were the ones that would set in writing a substantial part of the Holy Tradition, as well as numerous principles and norms fundamental for organising and leading the Church.

Over 190 years have passed since the first edition of the Russian Orthodox Church’s Catechism („Prostrannyj Hristianskij Katehizis Pravoslavnoj Kafoliceskoj Vostocnoj Cerkvi”), and no new official explanation of faith have been elaborated, which resulted in a discrepancy between the view of Tradition between the contemporary orthodox theology and the definitions and explanations contained in the Catechism. The article brings the reader closer to the modem three-level understanding of Tradition in the Orthodox Church and the relation between Tradition and Scripture. It also showsdifferent forms of Tradition that have always been passed on by the Church, and confronts them with the definitions presented in the Catechism, in order to show the need to develop a new explanation on tradition. The Polish edition of the Catechism in 2001 omitted the introductory part on Tradition, which proves that the editor was aware of how out-of-date the presented knowledge was.

The Holy Fathers, “great scholars and teachers”, are considered asthe normative representatives of the doctrinarian tradition of the Church, asespecially authorized witnesses of faith. They led a holy life and alsodistinguished themselves through the fact that they preached the teachingsreceived from the Saviour and the Holy Apostles.They are not only therepresentatives of the doctrinarian tradition of the Church, but also thewitnesses and criteria of true faith, the judges of Orthodoxy – this feature hasnot only a historic value and dimension, but also atemporal and generallyspiritual ones. The Holy Fathers are extremely “contemporary”, as they reachdirectly the Christians in our times and provide answers to the essentialquestions of mankind. By studying the patristic literature, we acquire the wayof thinking of the saints, which is helpful at anytime and in any circumstanceand allows us to show our faith and answer topical issues as they themselveswould have done if they were still alive now. By a careful and pious reading ofthe works of the Holy Fathers, contemporary human beings may find thesolutions to their problems and thean swers to their questions, as they aremodels of Christian living, wisdom and simplicity, and their theologicalknowledge and the truths they preached were un animously accepted andadmired by the whole Church.

Ratna zbivanja na našim prostorima uvjetovala su da se na nov način i sami vjernici preispitaju kako stoji s vlastitom vjerom i koja je uloga Crkve u ovome ratu ?! Zasigurno i kršćansku Crkvu, koja se na ovim područjima prelama u dvije Crkve — katoličku i pravoslavnu — ne zaobilazi u ovim vremenima ozbiljno pitanje njezine vjernosti Bogu i čojeku. Rat je odnos između ovih dviju Crkva do te mjere usložio da dolazi i do međusobnih okrivljivanja te se, uz već povijesno opterećen o nesuglasje o tome tko je kriv za raskol, tko je sačuvao veću izvornost i pravovjernost prema Kristu, očituje nerazumijevanje, šutnja i optužbe za rat, jer su ove Crkve usko vezane uz narodnosnu samobitnost (hrvatsku i srpsku).
