The current text is a review of Anna Angelova's book „Bulgarian Oldprinted Editions 1806–1878: A study of the collection of the Sofia University Library „St. Kliment Ohridski“, 416 p., hardcover. The book includes two author's studies, a catalog of printed editions, stored in the library, and 734 handwritten notes from books and newspapers, left as written traces by owners, readers, and donors. The publication of the notes and a part of the author's analyzes are assessed as contributions to the history of the book. A number of criticisms have been formulated regarding the language normalization of manuscripts and titles and regarding the numerous typographical errors, which are noticeable in the book. My recommendation is for a more in-depth and extensive analysis of the studied corpus. Anna Angelova's book gives me a reason to keep insisting on a full digital corpus of the Revival editions and full-text publications of all old printed books on the Internet, including handwritten notes on them.

This article proposes a new perspective for the analysis of the painting techniques used for mural decorations in Romanian wooden churches. On the one hand, it presents the theoretical aspects of tempera painting tradition, and clarifies the term “distemperpaint”. On the other hand, it offers brief overviews of the features of the main painting materials that were identified, as well as of their specific deterioration and alteration phenomena, an information that was collected from the available specialized literature. Didactic in great extent, this text creates the background for future discussions and aims at bringing to the attention of less experienced restorers and conservators some basic facts, such as the main characteristics of the painting materials used in Romanian wooden churches. The final result is a general overview of the existing data on the painting techniques of mural paintings in Romanian wooden churches.

The emergence of a painting by Modigliani, not yet known, led to the development of a program of scientific investigations to evaluate whether the materials used could be compatible with those used by Modigliani and whether the execution technique could be attributable to that of the unfortunate painter of Livorno. The campaign of diagnostic investigations lasted for almost three years, also having the opportunity to experiment with new diagnostic applications on paintings on canvas; the results of the work presented here return data completely favorable to the attribution of the painting to the hand of Modigliani. The difficulties in tackling the study of the painting arose from the fact that a fairly invasive restoration carried out in the 1970s substantially modified the originality of the work; the possibility given today by scientific instruments to see beyond the surface has given the owners the courage to face a large-scale diagnostic campaign to resolve the question of the authenticity or otherwise of the work.

The article reviews Martina Lukić's exhibition "Kronos," which juxtaposes analog and digital photography, specifically the historical anthotype technique with AI-generated visuals. Lukić explores the relationship between subject and object, creating anthotypic portraits using AI tools like Stable Diffusion and DALL-E. The process involves generating negatives, applying natural dyes like turmeric and cherry juice to paper, and exposing them to UV light. The exhibition reflects on themes of time, power, and the ephemeral nature of images, questioning the distinction between human and AI perception of wisdom and emotion.
