90 years after they were written, we are publishing the thoughts, needs, joys and hidden pains conveyed in the folios of nine letters (preserved in the Holy Synod Library), sent by the academician Ioan Bianu to the academician priest Nicolae M. Popescu. Six letters come from the archive of Father Nicolae M. Popescu, and the other three (nr. II, VI, VIII) were bought at an antiquity fair in 2017.Both correspondents loved books and heritage. Both protected books from scattering, offering them to the readers that were thirsting for the Word and Science.Moreover, Ioan Bianu and the priest Nicolae M. Popescu are amongst those that, enthusiastic about the Great Unification, offered Greater Romania all the talent and skills that God had bestowed upon them.

Evolutions in the international context determined the increase of the importance of public diplomacy, and this paper follows its role in the foreign policy of a country and in the policies developed by the governmental actors who, in contemporary diplomacy, collaborate with non-state actors and with non-governmental organizations. Governmental policy tries to promote and collaborate rather than to control. Public diplomacy, an instrument of soft power, promotes the cultural values of a state in another state; trying to obtain the image it wants abroad. And for this, the partners of the state are the non-governmental organisations and the simple citizens.

STAN BIBLIOTEK I ZBIORÓW ARCHIWALNYCH BAZYLIAŃSKICH KLASZTORÓW W ŚWIETLE WIZYTACJI (1799-1824)

The basic sources in the research on monastic libraries, apart from library catalogues, include visitation files, recording the numerical size of communities and the size of monastic book collections. The visiting inspectors recorded the number of volumes, contents, library rooms and the archival documentation of individual monastic institutions. The preserved visitations to Basilian monasteries allow for the analysis of 27 book collections in the Uniate Diocese of Lutsk during the first quarter of the 19th century. This documentation makes it possible to determine the number of collections, the pace of their increase, and their thematic scope. Several years later, after the dissolution of the Basilian Fathers, most of these libraries would be dispersed, a large part of the books donated to educational institutions, while more valuable items were transferred to museums and university libraries. Visitation files are therefore a valuable source for exploring the collections, the places where they were stored, as well as the contents of the monastic archives. Monastic libraries varied in size, organization, and substantive content. They served primarily as support in the pastoral and educational work of monks. Both theological works and fiction works, as well as Western European manuscripts and editions were collected in the monasteries. The range of Polish and foreign typographies testified to the high intellectual culture of the order. Even small communities scattered in rural centres offered the opportunity of contact with books and educating local youth. Undoubtedly, they formed the cultural landscape of these lands.

BIBLIE W JĘZYKU POLSKIM WYDANE W LATACH 1801-1945

The presented article provides a list of the printed editions of the Bible in Polish which came out over the years 1801-1945. In order to identify specific editions, the literature (as well as available databases) on the topic in question was reviewed. The catalogues of the main Polish antique shops, as well as au-ction and advertising portals were also examined. As a result of these efforts, data was collected on a total of 242 editions of the Bible (Old Testament and New Testament) during the analysed period. 71 out of 242 editions were considered unique or exemplary.

STUDENTS' OPINIONS ON DIGITAL LIBRARIES IN EDUCATION - LITERATURE REVIEW

In modern times, the flow of scientific information is significantly conditioned by the development of modern digital technologies. In that context, the digitalization of university libraries is especially important, which, along with the changes in higher education, has introduced significant changes in the promotion of scientific knowledge. Compared to traditional, digital libraries have a number of advantages for sharing scientific data, especially when it comes to accessibility. This was most pronounced during the Covid-19 pandemic, when physical access to libraries was difficult for many scientists and students. Accordingly, an increasing number of research papers appear in the relevant literature in which significant attention is paid to the research of attitudes towards digital libraries. The aim of this paper is to provide a systematization of papers based on research studies that examine the relationship of students to digital libraries and to point out various aspects of studying this topic. Accordingly, the paper presents the issues that the authors dealt with in the research: the level of information and communication competencies of students for adequate use of digital libraries, i.e. information literacy; different types of resources that students use in digital libraries; student perceptions of the usefulness of digital library resources, as well as mobile learning and digital libraries. In the concluding part of the paper, it is stated that digital libraries have a significant role in the process of modern study, that they represent a valuable source of scientific information for students. The conclusion is that the topic of students' attitudes towards digital libraries is very current and that with the development of new digital technologies, it will be increasingly important for researchers of different fields and orientations.

BIBLIOTECA CENTRALĂ A SUCEVEI – O ISTORIE MAI PUȚIN CUNOSCUTĂ

The Central Library of Suceava is the creation of two cultural societies from the interwar period. Its establishment was a long-awaited moment which had been prepared since 1919 and was mostly possible due to the efforts of the Orthodox Oriental Gymnasium which through his representatives, i. e. fine intellectuals and pioneers of Romanianism, largely supported the cultural-educational activities, thus raising the level of national consciousness of the city of Suceava. The founder of the library was Eusebie Popovici, a high school teacher, mayor of Suceava and of its devoted citizens. He managed to raise the funds needed to open the library, buying about 2 000 volumes from 3 famous professors from Suceava, who owned important personal libraries. Over time, the only librarian, Cornel Soroceanu, also a teacher at the same high school, passionately dedicated his free time to the new institution. Having a vocation as a librarian, he managed to grow the collections annually, making the Central Library of Suceava a remarkable establishment, visited by many personalities. In 1944, during the refuge period, part of the inventory was moved to the former Câmpulung Moldovenesc county. Upon returning to Suceava, the inventory suffered significant losses through theft, destruction and burning. The Central Library of Suceava operated in the National House, a symbolic building of Suceava, demolished in the late 60s.

The collections of libraries and museums from Romania keep priceless heritage assets. Old books form a distinct category of museal pieces. Such a collection is found at the Metropolitan Library of Bucharest, built in the mid of XXth century and, subsequently, completed by purchase. Within the mentioned holdings are also preserved some copies of old Romanian books whose authors chronologically subsume under the cultural movement generically named the Transylvanian School. We refer to a series of books of distinctly religious, linguistic and historical nature. The study focuses on works – some original, others translations or compilations – of some renowned personalities of the Romanian culture during the Enlightenment, from the end of the XVIIIth century and beginning of the XIXth century.

The article presents the historical and present organisation and activity of the Museum of Children’s Books, which is a special department and scholarly reading room of the Warsaw Public Library – Central Library of Mazovia Province. At the beginning, a short history of the institution is described and its present location and collections are discussed. Next, the author presents the functions of the Museum regarding updating and processing the collection, as well as its most recent informational and promotional activities. Thus, he presents the forms of promoting science, culture, and reading that are undertaken in the Museum: scholarly conferences, workshops, competitions, exhibitions, as well as its didactic activity.

The Second Summer School on Space Research, Technology and Applications took place between 3 – 10 July 2022 at the National Astronomical Observatory (NAO) in Rozhen, Bulgaria. The school is held for the second year and is organized by the Branch “Cosmos” of the Union of Physicists in Bulgaria. The event brought together PhD students and young scientists, researchers in the field of space sciences. Speakers from prestigious universities and research institutions gave six lectures and two short presentations. Three practical groups were formed, which lasted a whole week, and on the last day the participants presented their results. During three half-day workshops, participants learned about new business opportunities and worked on a practical task with real data and specialized software.

eShadow+: Mixed Reality Storytelling Inspired by Traditional Shadow Theatre

eShadow is a digital storytelling platform inspired by traditional Shadow Theatre. It enables the creation of digital stories within a project-based ap-proach that may start from scenario development and include the creation of digital puppets and sceneries, the set-up and recording of story scenes and the final assembly of a digital story. This paper presents details about eShad-ow architecture, features and how its use has been enhanced, employing the PerFECt framework, to combine it with immersive technologies such as pro-jection mapping, to create mixed reality installations that offer rich learning experiences to participants in informal learning settings. Two installations are described and compared. The evaluation results demonstrate the effective-ness of the approach towards engaging learning experiences that combine mixed reality approaches with arts such as black light theatre.

Integration Multimedia and Virtual Reality in the Online Teaching of Fine Arts

This article deals with the problems of Fine Arts teaching. An approach capable to integrate different types of resources is presented. The described approach corresponds to the recent trends in education where multimedia tools and virtual reality are integrated to improve learning. The described approach has been used to create an interactive experimental lesson for students studying mural painting. The developed innovative lesson is tailored to the age characteristics of students and their increased interest in fine arts. The preliminary results show the applicability of the proposed approach and satisfaction with the acquired knowledge among the students.

Global Intellectual Property Applications and Active IP Rights (2015-2020) – Result of IP Education

The purpose of this paper is to compare data, covering four types of industrial property – patents, utility models, trademarks, and industrial designs in the period 2015-2020, based on the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Indicators. In the category patents and utility models are compared percentage shares of total patent applications by the top five offices; patent applications for the top 10 offices; top 10 Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT) applicants; utility model applications for the top 10 offices. In the category trademark are compared percentage shares of total trademark filing activity by the top five offices; application class counts for the top 10 offices; Madrid international applications for the top 10 origins. In the category industrial design are compared percentage shares of total design filing activity by the top five offices; application design counts for the top 10 offices; designs in Hague international applications for the top 10 origins. The analysis shows the development in all areas of intellectual property (IP), which is directly related to raising awareness of IP issues in university environment.

Virtualization, Processing, and Standardization of Knowledge about Bulgarian Cultural, Historical and Natural Heritage for Use in School Education

Digital Imaging Techniques in Archaeometry: The Case of an Ancient Crucifixion Icon

An ancient Crucifixion icon has been studied using imaging techniques integrated with appropriated visualizations. Relevant parameters and suitable algorithms have been selected in a proper sequence to segment the studied images into meaningful elements functional to the attribution of the icon through analysis of the employed materials and techniques. The cross-referencing of the results allowed to identify three main phases in the realization of the painting, to describe their extension, character and determine the possible authors as: Cretan/Ionian painters, '500-' 600 (1st phase); Hristofor Žefarović, Western Balkans or Vienna, 1730-1753 (2nd phase); Placido Fabris / Michelangelo Barbini, Venice, mid 19th c. (3rd phase).
