We analyze the Hungarian religious community of Cleveland and its effect on the Hungarian identity on the basis of literature and fieldwork with interviews and personal interviews. In addition, the study deals in detail with the 125-year-old Saint Elizabeth Church, which was the first Catholic Roman Catholic community of the city and is an integral part of the preservation of Hungarian identity. The study investigates the evolution of the Higher School of Commerce - Varna in its struggle to obtain formal state regulation and greater academic autonomy. The first step was taken with the drawing up, discussion and adoption of the regulations and the syllabus of the School, approved on 28 September 1920 by order of the Ministry of Trade. A new turning point in the development of the educational institution was the Law on Public Education of 1924, which - for the first time in the history of Bulgarian legislation - regulated the existence of higher economic education – the legal basis for the operation of HSC - Varna, by virtue of which the latter passed from the administration of the Ministry of Trade into the administration of the Ministry of Public Education. Based on the new Law there were drawn up and adopted the Regulations of 1925. On the following year – 1926 – there began the efforts to enact a Bill on the HSC, which took its teaching staff many years and strenuous intellectual labour. The model followed was that of Sofia State University, and the legal grounds - the passed laws on the higher economic educational institutions that emerged later on. Since the end of 1936, in the drafted laws in Varna there were methodically and consistently included several new and very significant demands: to change the name and expand the educational profile, to open new departments, to introduce a departmental structure, etc. Eventually, the reform was achieved, after the Rector Prof. Stancho Cholakov became Minister of Education. The nationalization and the introduction of the new structure of the Academy of Varna was conclusively accomplished with the "Decree" promulgated on 4 August 1945. At last, the long pursued reform was a fact and it opened a new period in the development of the educational institution.

In the late 17th century professor (later also the rector) of the Academy in Greifswald, Benjamin Potzerne (1665–1699), announced a project of a biobibliographical dictionary which was to contain biographies and the subjective bibliographies of the native Pomeranians, as well as of other inhabitants of Pomerania, who published here their works. The dictionary, inspired by the work of Johann Moller (1661–1725) and Daniel Georg Morhof (1639–1691), and – indirectly – Szymon Starowolski (1588–1656), was not eventually written because of the author’s sudden death. The article discusses the assumptions of the project and demonstrates its place among other achievements of this type at the time.

The text comprises selected fragments of the official Latin correspondence between the Academic Gymnasium in Szczecin and the Academic Gymnasium in Gdańsk which in 1758 celebrated its 200 anniversary. These texts were printed in Gdańsk somewhere around 1758–1759 in a special jubilee publication Acta iubilaei secundi Gymnasii Gedanensis… They were authored probably by the then rector of the Szczecin school Heinrich Moritz Titz. Formally, it is a congratulation letter (one of the two officially sent from Szczecin to Gdańsk), which expressed the response of the school community to the Gdańsk jubilee. The letter was accompanied with a programma, which can be understood as an announcement of the Gdańsk jubilee. The community of the professors of the Academic Gymnasium in Szczecin addressed this announcement to its students and the prominent members of the local municipal community. These writings exemplify the institutional contacts within the Respublica litteraria. They were transcribed and translated into the Polish language. They are preceded by an Introduction in which I commented their content and form, and took an attempt to explain the role of this correspondence among many other, formally similar, congratulation texts in the Acta iubilaei secundi Gymnasii Gedanensis…

The relatively young discipline of "art therapy" is a phenomenon with a huge force of impact on the individual. A number of sources lead to its deep roots in antiquity, when art was known to our ancestors. Its healing power has excited shamans, priests, scientists in all ages, and in later times doctors, philosophers, psychologists, pedagogues. Historical facts show that a man sought not only a creative expression, but a solution to his real problems, depicting everything from the world around him. Art was a language without words, contributing to the healing of a man, and his figurative symbolism was an important part of healing rituals. As part of social interactions, creative activities became a way of harmonizing feelings and calming the patient.

Present paper aims to present an icon "St. Stylianos the Protector of Children” from the collection of the Regional Historic Museum in Shumen. The icon is painted by the iconographer Nikola Vasilev from Shumen. It is signed on the back with a handwritten inscription with the name of Ekaterina T. Ikonomova. Based on the analysis of the biographical data about Todor Ikonomov's wife, a hypothesis is formulated that the icon in question was a personal property of Ekaterina T. Ikonomova and was signed by herself. In addition, the paper uses this occasion to promote the personality of Ekaterina Pashmakova (T. Ikonomovа) and to amplify the list of described icons by the important icon painter Nikola Vasilev from Shumen.

This essay examines the work of the Polish freedom fighters in the revolution in southwest German Baden in 1848/49 by identifying the personal connections between the uprisings in Baden and Poznań and identifying Prussia as a common enemy. In particular, the role of the Polish military officer Ludwik Mierosławski as general of the Baden troops is honoured. The goal is thus to determine the exact contribution of Polish fighters in the Baden Revolution and how they interacted with the Baden revolutionaries. Thus, the essay also sheds light on the help of Baden for the Polish fight for freedom in the form of so-called Polish associations. For this purpose, the essay presents the eyewitness accounts of the year 1849 from the perspective of Baden and Polish participants. Methodologically, the article extracts the specific events in Baden and Poznań from the general revolutionary history of the years 1848/49. Chronologically, the essay also looks back at prehistory up to 1815 and offers a look at the life of the revolutionaries after 1849. The events in Baden and Poznań are finally placed in a larger context, especially in the context of the European freedom movements, the international cooperation of the revolutionaries, and Polandʼs striving for independence.

The paper discuss the forgotten controversy from the history of sociological theory between two eminent sociologists, Marianne Weber and Georg Simmel, about the position of women in German society (and educational system) in early 20th century. The authors offer new interpretation of the controversy embeded into societal context of: (a) German society in late 19th and early 20th century, (b) first wave feminisim in Germany, and (c) individual habitus of its protagonists. The interpretation shows that inspite of the fact that Weber and Simmel confront their opinions about Simmel’s hypothesis that women should create a different, independent and alternative cultural system (subjective culture) as a counterpoint to dominant male objective culture, they both made an attempt to conteptualize reality that will be constructed on alternative value systems. However, these alter realities were limited by the academic, educational and political experiences of their creators, as well as their gender and class belonging.

History curricula for secondary schools in Serbia were under alteration from 2018 to 2020. The new curricula concept is aiming to change the learning paradigm from content-oriented to outcome/competence-oriented curricula. It was planned that new national history curricula should rest upon the key competences for lifelong learning, as well as the specific subject competences, but also on competences for democratic culture (Council of Europe 2016). Curricula developers took into consideration parts of the recently adopted document by the Council of Europe (Principles and guidelines for quality history education in the 21st century, Strasbourg 2018) that could direct education policymakers, history teachers, educators, curricula designers and textbook authors to the possible answers for possible resolutions of different challenges imposed to the contemporary history education. In the paper, it will be explained how the currently existing chronological linear concept is combined with the new one that encloses a thematic approach reflecting those historical phenomena that could foster the development of critical and historical thinking skills as well as forenamed competences. Furthermore, this article will examine whether and to what extent teachers are trained to plan and develop educational activities following the needs and aims of this way organized curriculum.
