Urban space in Poland has undergone not only positive transformations. The objective of the research is to determine the influence of selected communication objects on the formation of the quality of urban space on the examples from two cities: Łódź and Warszawa. The investigation included a range of methods: analysis of city plans and maps, photos and local observation. It was determined that cities in Poland, being a stage for many actors who desire to attract many users, undergo many transformations of urban space. A few examples related to communication were given, contributing towards the formation of urban terrain friendly to its users and those which are hostile to the inhabitants and other users of cities (e.g. residents, tourists).

European Parliament elections and their results in Poland are main subject of this paper. Current need of electoral results analysis was undertook because there are two next elections incoming this and next year in Poland: local and parliamentary. On basis of this research political parties could work on theirs strategy before those elections. Moreover, in easy manner, due to numerous maps and tables, every citizen might get familiar with electoral geography, which has become very dynamic recently and thus very interesting. This paper shows areas of main parties supporters domination in local and regional scale. Furthermore, it takes into consideration time scale 2011-2014, what allows comparative study of elections results. Second part of this paper is about single-mandate constituencies as an alternative for current, criticized electoral system in Poland. There are shown 51 projected constituencies for European Parliament mandates from Poland, and 460 constituencies for Polish parliamentary elections as well as simulations of all results in them.

The article summarizes the results of a study of the impact of suburbanization on the budgets of Polish gminas existing in the zones of influence of big cities. The study covers the 2001-2010 period and examines the zone of influence of 12 most important cities, following the National Spatial Development Concept 2030. Revenues, and therefore expenditures of gminas, are increasing due to the process of suburbanization. That growth is concentrated in a relatively small number of administrative units. One of the most important results is the increase in gminas income from their shares in PIT. The second consists in higher incomes from the property taxes, mostly on commercial property. Higher incomes on assets are concentrated in the areas that were formerly developed. Transfer incomes are lower in suburbanizing areas. Suburbanization results in higher expenditure on transport (mostly road infrastructure) and lower on education (postponement of investments), and social assistance. Higher expenditures on housing are concentrated in the areas that were developed in the past.

In the network of multimodular corridors, but also in the European traffic system on the whole, corridor X has a very important role more in respect of its position and potentials and less regarding the degree of it valuation. It is particularly so since it represents a section of the intercontinental (land) link between Europe and Near and Middle East. At the same time, this corridor is also a dominant axis of development in the majority of SE European countries, as well as a major component of complex spatial-functional transformations that occur within them. That, inter alia, means that the pace of overall development of these parts will depend both on the pace of the overall valuation of potentials this corridors has (and represents), as well as the strengthening of its role as a major element of intra- and inter-regional linking of this part of European continent.

Posavina in Serbia have the ecosistems of marches that can be used for development of ecoturism. Besides all we will mantione Obedska bara (marsh), Bara Zasavica (Zasavica marsch), Ribnjača and Orlača (marsh), etc. This unique ecosistems are residence of marsh birds, flora and fauna with european importance. They are connected with navigable river Sava, and that gives the oportunity for combining ecotourism and nautic tourism. Besides that, in Serbian Posavina is located several arheological excavation sites (Sirmium, Gomolava, Debrc), monasteries and other cultural-historic monuments, that represents the first classes turistic motives. Natural and antropogenic motives of Serbian Posavina makes this area along the river remarkable ecosistem. It is importain that in future river Sava and its marsh banks gest the special tretman of protection and ecoturisitic valorisation.

The technical Post Occupancy Evaluation: interview, the questioning and wayfinding analysis (pedestrian movement) by “movement traces” are used in this paper to analyze and understand the metamorphosis’ investigation in cities mass housing; case of El-Amel neighborhood in Biskra city. This was taken in order to understand the relationship between the redistribution space-usage and socio-spatial dysfunction, as well as the pedestrian frequentation movement level and, in the end, the transformation of the facades and outdoor spaces appropriations. The investigation results of model analysis wayfinding by “movement traces”, shows that the majority of pedestrians prefer diagonally straight roads and shorter axes in the direction of the new equipment, in adjacent spaces, within the city. Therefore, these axes which have direct impact show insecurity in this case study and the transformation of the façades as well as a new appropriation of the outdoor spaces.

According to Ernst & Young’s - Cultural Times: the first global map of cultural and creative industries the „global cultural and creative industries occupy 1% of the active population -(generally visual arts, the book and music industry). In the first place of the sales with 33% is Asia-Pacific, followed by Europe 32%, and the United States 28% in the third place”. Looking at these statistics, we can conclude that from an economic and social point of view, the activities that are acknowledged as being part of the cultural and creative sectors already play an significant role in the development and diversification of worldwide scale economy

In recent years, new and promising developments have made new economic geography (NEG) a popular framework for examining the spatial distribution of economic activity around the world. A major NEG prediction is that wages are higher in regions with a large market and easy access to suppliers of intermediate inputs. Based on this principle, we examine this hypothesis by using provincial data in Vietnam. Since the Doi Moi reform in 1986, the Vietnamese economy has successfully transformed from a centrally planned to a market-based economy. The Vietnamese experience has been seen as a valuable case study for other economies in transition. This paper estimates a structural model of NEG using Vietnamese provinces data for the period 2000 — 2012. Using instrumental variables based on the principle of generalised method of moments (GMM), we take account of potential endogeneity problem between regressors. We provide evidence that the industrial linkages and trade costs are statistically significant and quantitatively important in ex-plaining variation in provincial wages. This finding is robust to controlling for a wide range of considerations. Moreover, local governments need to strengthen human capital as the first step towards improving average wages. Indeed, a better education system is not only instrumental to raising average earnings per worker, but also crucial for minimizing income inequality in the long run.

The English language nowadays is significantly changing, responding to the opportunities of a rapidly evolving world. The lexical level is intrinsically most liable to changes, albeit the constantly increasing number of new words inevitably entails some obscureness and preposterousness. This pilot study is intended to shed light on the dubious nature of ‘nonce words’ which, on the one hand, help express speaker’s thoughts and convey implicit preferences and, on the other hand, serve as a barrier to understanding the message. The article covers the notion of nonce words, their place and role in mass media discourse. The author determines the key features and functions of nonce words in media discourse in general and travel journalism in particular. The choice of the data is predetermined by the popularisation of travel media as a trend for ‘infotainment’ in modern mass media. The text elaborates cognitive features of word-formation, which makes possible to investigate the interaction of mind, language and reality in the act of designation and reveal cognitive mechanisms that underlie the designation of different fragments of the surrounding world. Resting on comprehensive methods applied to the study, the researcher affirms that cognitive mechanisms, operations and procedures underlie aggregated, condensed and modified types of occasional word-formation. Particular attention is paid to portmanteau words as the most productive way of creating nonce words in mass media discourse.

Representing a direct response of hydrologic, hydrogeologic, geomorphologic, and anthropic factors, the dynamic of river channels has a useful scientific and practical importance, especially for the regions where the rivers play the role of state border. This article presents a detailed analysis of the dynamic of the Prut River channel for the last 125 years, concerning a 26 km sector of the river, which correspond to Prisacani territorial (local) administrative unit (LAU 2nd order), Iaşi County. This segment can be considered as a representative natural border between Romania and Republic of Moldavia along the middle Prut River course, downstream the Stânca-Costeşti anthropic lake. The work consisted in digitization of a large series topographic maps (1893-1894 edition at 1:50,000 scale, 1940 edition at 1:20,000 scale, the 1949, 1960 and 1985 editions at 1:25,000 scale), various remote sensing images: LANDSAT images for the 1990 and 2000 decades, SENTINEL 1A and 2A images for the year 2015 and 2016, LiDAR DEM (acquired in 2012), and Google Earth® high resolution optical satellite images collection. For the last two years, the channel dynamic was validated and completed using GPS measurements.

The aim of the paper is to describe the monitoring process used when we aim to realize the monitoring process for a volcanic deformation considering several approaches. The described process is complex because it combines the unpredictable nature of the volcano, infinitely higher than of a land or structures, with the process of tracking the deformations which is mainly based on measurements performed in the study area and right next to it in many stages. The process is more difficult to be realized because in the volcanoes case it is impossible to be done without appropriate equipment.

The purpose of tracking in time the buildings in a field of salt probes is to obtain information in order to ensure the stability of the buildings, an assessment of environmental conditions to prevent various natural accidents, prevention by reducing the damage or to prevent the loss of lives and environmental degradation. Based on topographic measurements made on the topographic marks placed on land or on the topographic marks placed in the foundations of buildings, are determined the deformations and displacements that occur in the area of influence of salt extraction and the displacement directions of the marks (vertical displacements).

Artificial intelligence (AI) has now become a reality and, in many areas, it is already used, being very secure. Communication with a car now has a variety of different functions, most of which use the cloud. Without data, it's nothing. Vehicle telematics has evolved and allows for a wider range of capabilities including navigation, tracking driver behavior, E-key calling and guidance on efficiency fuel consumption. Opportunity and challenges regarding the development of Intelligent Transport Systems, from the perspective of potential users, require data that must be transformed into accessible information, so that road users can adapt their driving behavior according to weather conditions, traffic jam information and estimates waiting time but also other information to increase the general traffic safety. Information stored on the vehicle's computer or, more likely, on the manufacturer's or service provider's servers, will be transferred from one vehicle to another, as long as the technology is compatible when a user switches their car.

In recent earthquakes, there has been a significant field evidence that the collapse of existing structures is due to the effect of the vertical component of the seismic ground motions. Such field evidence has been not supported by comprehensive analytical and experimental testing yet. This study focuses on the preliminary analysis of the seismic response of reinforced concrete elements exposed to horizontal and vertical ground motions. In this research, the vertical earthquake effect was investigated on two reinforced concrete buildings with 3 stories and 7 stories

Between music geography and iconic music legends, a strong connection has been established in terms of spatial and temporal analysis of popular music and the representation of national identities in the contemporary global cultures of popular music. The existing literature unveils a gap in the analysis of music geography and famous musicians, real global music icons identified with particular cultures. This paper argues that such music legends must be geographically studied to unveil their outstanding contribution to the world music cultures. Against such a background, a geographical approach that takes Canadian singer Céline Dion as a case studyis developed. The research aims to analyse Dion’s outstandingcontribution to global music culture in both spatial and temporal terms. Based on the music industry emergence, the paper focuses on how and why Céline Dion appeared in global music culture and examines her outstanding contribution with specific referenceto music cartographies and statistical research.National identity and related cultural issues beyond the music, lyrics, and performances are also addressed. The empirically led study is based on a multi-method approach and makes use of statistical data analysis, GIS methods, biographicalinquiry, the analysis of lyrics and visual methodologies, all suggesting that Dion’s contribution has greatly influenced the global popular music culture of the last few decades.Although the topics in question cannot be fully discussed within the limits of this paper, it highlights the importance of these issues and calls for further in-depth research to provide a new critical understanding of the intimate connections between popular music, legendary music icons and the recent perspectives in music geographies
