Energy Security in Terms of Geothermal Resources in Selected Regions of Poland

The study attempts to analyze the need to build subjective Polish energy security in the context of its rich geothermal resources of the various regions of our country. Adoption of these measures allows not only to increase the diversification of sources of energy supply but also brings significant benefits in economic, social and environmental area. This issue is presented in three aspects: • Sources and resources of geothermal energy in selected regions of Poland; • Advantages and disadvantages of using geothermal energy; • Examples of the use of geothermal energy in some regions of Poland. The use of geothermal resources may also have significance in no-military defence dimension of the country. To explore the problem in detail, an analytic-synthetic research method was used.

SAPNA - ANTROPOGEOGRAFSKI PRIKAZ

Sapna pripada geografskom prostoru sjeveroistočne Bosne, i administrativno-teritorijalno čini jednu od trinaest općina Tuzlanskog kantona. Općina Sapna ima obnovljeni status postojanja od 1998. godine od dijela općine Zvornik koji je entitetskom podjelom pripao Federaciji BiH. Ovaj prostor čini jednu kompaktnu cjelinu, koja egzistira na ovom prostoru stoljećima. U radu će biti izvršen antropogeografski prikaz, odnosno bit će prikazan historijskoteritorijalni i društveni razvoj ovog područja kroz prošlost. U geografskom smislu Sapna obuhvata istočne obronke planine Majevice i gornji tok rijeke Sapne, koja čini lijevu pritoku Drine, pa se može reći da ovaj prostor pripada i Podrinju. Površina općine Sapna je 118 km2, što čini 4,45% teritorije Tuzlanskog kantona. Najgušće je naseljen južni dio općine, odnosno prostor oko rijeke Sapne i prostor koji se nalazi u neposrednoj blizini centra Sapne, dok je prostor sa većom nadmorskom visinom, odnosno dijelovi Majevice, veoma rijetko naseljen. Ovaj prostor je još od davnih vremena bio povezan dolinom rijeke Sapne sa Podrinjem. Puštanjem u promet puta Kalesija-Sapna prostor općine Sapna dobija povezanost sa magistralnim putem Tuzla-Zvornik, čime je omogućena bolja povezanost tuzlanske regije sa ovim dijelom Podrinja.

In search for a realistic perspective on urban safety: The attractiveness concerns caused by mass-immigration

Safety aspects comprise an important determinant of urban location choice. How negative social externalities and their mitigation influences the attractiveness of housing, business, recreational and civic locations in cities concerns both human and property rights. Amidst the ongoing immigrant and refugee crisis this also requires dealing with current hot topics such as immigrant ghettoes and asylum centres. This paper argues that, in the face of practical problems of heightened risk for violent crime including terrorism, solutions ought to be pragmatic rather than ideological. Recognising and managing these problems are vital pre-conditions for keeping urban areas and neighbourhoods liveable. A successful management of this situation could then be used as a strategy for city competition. This in turn would help us return towards a constructive discourse concerning the issues at stake here.

Spatial policies are meant to ensure a balanced and sustainable development at different territorial levels. Although numerous studies were carried out, consensus was not achieved on the importance of different levels of policies (local, regional, national, European) on the development process, and whether regulated interventions can stimulate development better than the intrinsic mechanisms of territorial processes. This study aims to assess the development of Romania at the level of metropolitan areas, using GIS in conjunction with the statistical and mathematical modeling of territorial dynamics. The results strengthen the importance of the local level in monitoring the efficiency of spatial development policies.

Impacts of urbanization and tourism on the erosion and accretion of European, Asian and African coastal areas and possible solutions

Coastal areas are very important due to the ecosystem services provided to the inhabitants. However, these advantages have resulted into an increasing attraction, especially in the recent centuries. The human pressure determined numerous impacts on the ecosystems and ultimately on the safety and welfare of the coastal inhabitants, aggravated by the consequences of the global changes. The present study aims to explore two particular impacts, erosion and accretion, based on statistical data and unpublished studies, in an effort to increase the awareness towards the fact that the issue has a global extent. In addition, possible solutions are examined. The results indicate that erosion and accretion are present in all the three countries examined, and their extent tends to increase. Our findings suggest a need to act urgently; the phenomena need to be stopped first using engineering solutions, but a careful planning is needed in the long run, especially through restrictions meant to stop the “derogatory planning”. Last but not least, the conservation of fragile ecosystems by including them in natural protected areas is a possible solution.

Innovative Decision Making Tools used in territorial planning and urban management

In modern cities, decision-making in urban planning activity is related with the analysis and processing of a large amount of data describing the state of all urban subsystems, which involves the participation of specialists in many fields of science and practice. Today, these tasks are performed in a scientific way, based on experience and qualification. The main objective of the CRISALIDE project is the development of a decision support system for urban environment management. It is envisaged to be used by representatives of state authorities and local governments, enterprises and local organizations, as well as by individuals working in fields like sustainable development, social innovation, information or communication technologies. Modern methods and geo-information systems are used to improve efficiency of urban management and to reduce the planning costs at different levels. The expected result when achieving the main objective of the project is the IDMT tool (Integrated Decision Making Tool), an online platform based on IGIS (Intelligent Geographic Information Systems), which aims to support local authorities from the city of Rostov-on-Don (Russia) in order to streamline the urban management and to reduce redundant planning costs.

Planning and Development of Tourism in the Șureanu Massif. Analysis of the Hydrographic Touristic Potential

The planning and tourism development of a geographical area is influenced by the richness of water resources. The hydrographic component has an important role in stimulating and developing tourism activities, imposing itself from this point of view through all forms of water storage, both surface and underground. From this point of view, tourism knows favorable conditions for development, benefiting from an extraordinary complexity and richness of the attractive elements offered by the hydrographic network. Each of them generates through its different effect, specific forms of tourism. The hydrographic network is thus imposed by the landscape and balneotourism impact, the Șureanu mountains constituting a huge natural castle of underground and surface waters.

Икономическата география: от описание към прогнозиране и вариантни практически решения

The main purpose of this article is to re-think description and forecasting, as key stages of economic geography research, especially during the Fourth Technological Revolution. A critical analysis of the literature is used in order to refute methodological notions about the use of description, as a research method. The investigation results demonstrate that the expected “flood of data” that will cover all aspects of the Earth‘s surface, will provide new opportunities and methods to integrate the subject and object of geography: the “nature-man-society” relationship and is one of the main reasons for the prioritization of the descriptive stage of research, in respect to the geographical forecasting. The paper points that the automation of both scientific geography and socioeconomic governance requires forecast information. The scientific support of the social and corporate management and of the strategic and other planning documents for socio-economic development of the geospatial units of any scale are direct dependent on the quality of the forecast modeling and serve as a criterion for the level of development of economic geography.

On urban safety in the occident: Some relevant observations

Recent decades have witnessed an accelerating population movement from Africa and Asia to Europe and North America. This trend has interfered with the stability of Western urban life, thereby eroding a relatively homogeneous Western urban culture and traditional European urban values. And more worryingly, this process has also decreased safety due to violent gang related crimes as well as potential terrorist threats, mainly in big cities across Western Europe and USA. One could therefore argue that the role of urban scholars should be to question and critically inquiry this harm being caused. Therefore, this contribution discusses the issues of safety and trust (and lack thereof), amid intensified mass immigration and related security threats in urban neighbourhoods across the Western world today.

ТОПОНИМИЯТА НА БИВШАТА ОРЯХОВСКА ОКОЛИЯ

This study is the end result of the author’s extended exploration of the onomastic diversity of her home region. The text consists of a theoretical part, register of the villages, list of abbreviations and a dictionary of the local names. The research was initiated in 2007, concluded in 2019 and spread over 31 villages on the territory of the former Oryahovo municipality. Currently those villages are part of Vratsa district. The main information sources of the text are two: 1. The Master’s thesis of Roumiana Ivanova (1972), under the supervision of Prof. Nikolai Kovachev, “St. Cyril and St. Methodius” University of Veliko Tarnovo. 2. The gathered by the author toponymical material — individually and as part of a project funded by the Centre of Bulgarian Onomastics at “St. Cyril and St. Methodius” University of Veliko Tarnovo. The study confirms the initial working hypothesis that a sizeable part of the toponymical material collected during 1972, is well preserved and could be amassed even today. The loss of parts of the onomastic data from the region is due to the inevitable cultural, historical, and socio-economic changes on local and national level. Finally, the active bilingualism remains present in the everyday speech and name formation process in the area of the so called “Vlachs villages”.

Preliminary study of philosophy and practice of ‘Healthy Scene of Futuristic Community’

The related theoretical research in the conception of futuristic community is not yet systematized due to its innovativeness to date, which is proposed the year before last under the refined management, digital revolution, and national health care. Based on the connection between its futurity and technicality, eco-responsibility, sociality vs. update, this study sorts out its basic evaluation index system in this paper. Moreover, complying with the digital trend, a stereoscopic mode consisting of physical & fictitious facets and three quadrants was formulated. Meanwhile, another planning practice was conducted in the Jixin futuristic community in functional integration and digital connectivity on this model's foundation. The prediction of future vital technologies will also put suggestions on enriching the theoretical framework forwards.

Warszawa na ilustracjach w książkach dziecięcych i młodzieżowych – rekonesans

The article discusses representations of Warsaw in children’s and young adult book illustrations (including graphics appearing in picturebooks). The research material consists of the works from the collection of the Museum of Children’s Books (a special department of the Warsaw Public Library – Central Library of Mazovia Province) and those made available by the National Library of Poland on the https://polona.pl/ website. Firstly, the author discusses the images of the Polish capital city on the illustrations accompanying various versions of Warsaw legends and works which refer to these narratives. In the next part of the article, he examines book illustrations that do not refer to legends, looking for the so-called strong places in the space of Warsaw that are particularly popular among artists. Finally, in the conclusion, the issue of maps of the Polish capital appearing, among others, in picturebooks is discussed. The author concludes that children’s and young adult book illustrations presenting Warsaw can be seen as a kind of visual archive – a reservoir of memory about the real and legendary past of the city.

Устойчивото развитие – ключов аспект на географското образование

The problems and challenges which contemporary world faces set the leading idea of “sustainable development” as key aspect of geographical education. In the paper is used the well-known definition for sustainable development – development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. As a result of these tendencies, in geography didactics can be pointed out three very important concepts – environmental education, global learning and education for sustainable development. The concept “environmental education” is still quite disputable and in theoretical debates the key question is how it interacts with the term “education for sustainable development”. The authors of the paper share the opinion that according to contemporary conditions the “ecological education” should be the main step in the process of improvement of “education for sustainable development”. One of the current trends within “environmental education” is the establishment of successful environmental behavior which is influenced by variety of factors: systematic knowledge, the impact of social norms, confidence in control and etc. The concept “global study” is often defined as a “pedagogical reaction” to the conditions in which the global society evolves. The “global study” is commonly accepted as an open process of life-long learning which takes into consideration every aspect of sustainable development. Of course, the central place here is dedicated to the space and its different scales. Also the challenges the “global study” concept faces taking into account its increasing complexity that could raise certain problems in the educational process. The “education for sustainable development” is a large-scale and ambitious task of contemporary education. The main aim of such education is to develop, deepen, constantly update and implement competences which the individuals achieve in their dynamic environmentally friendly, oriented to economic vitality and social justice activity. What are the main consequences for the geographic education practice? Firstly, geographic education will be focused on global and essential for the future world development topics, interrelating ecological, social, economic and political aspects. Secondly, crucial role in implementation of the educational process will be played by pupils. This will lead to fact that pupils’ motivation and own will to be the most important preconditions for acquiring and improving different competences. Thirdly, the starting point will be always the authentic problematic situation which pupils should recognize, then analyze and evaluate and afterwards take decisions, plan and do the particular activities.

The Razor’s Edge: The Western Sahara Conflict as a Geopolitical Antagonism in the Algerian Morrocan Relations

This article explores the origins of the Western Sahara conflict, and the contrasting interpretations of the factors which have kept it as an unresolved conflict after Spanish forces withdrew in 1975. This article shows how Algeria and Morocco continue to disagree on even the most basic facts of the dispute's history, and suggests that the continuation of the dispute is the result of conflicting models of statehood and historical narratives. Also, it explores ways in which developing concepts within political geography have contributed to understanding the ongoing significance of the region for all the parties to the conflict. Additionally, this paper argues that the contemporary contours of the Western Sahara conflict cannot be seen divorced from the larger geopolitical and balance of power developments in the Maghreb region. Algeria- Morocco relations in general and the Western Sahara conflict in particular are not only influenced by the local political, security and social dynamics, but also by the larger systemic and sub-systemic imperatives.
