Summary/Abstract: Life is a dream, theater, circus. Calderon de la Barca, Shakespeare and Borges illustrate these three metaphors, but Pedro Almodovar has made a synthesis of the three keys to interpret human adventure. His movies show life as dream, theater and circus. They tell the stories of our illusions and nostalgia, love and lack of love, generosity and misfortune, altruism, betrayals, traps, despair and hope. Essential elements o his movies: the clown (see also Frederico Fellini and Theophile Gautier), the gap (Bergon’s definition), the transvestite and the androgynous, social marginality/exclusion, humanity’s sadness (see here “La Celestina”, the XVIth century literary masterwork), XXth century Spanish avant-garde, the Voice as dues ex-machina, the songs and rituals.
