Summary/Abstract: A history of the XX century literature could be written from the point of view of the deep anxiety of this era; literature represents a sensible seismograph that registers every aspect of this anxiety. Such a history could begin with the “Book of Anxiety” by Fernando Pessoa. It could also include Kafka, Apollinaire, T.S. Eliot, George Orwell, Carl Emilio Gadda or Eugenio Montale, Primo Levi, Albert Camus, Samuel Beckett and many others.
