Summary/Abstract: 1936 can be defined as the year that marks the beginnings of the “pre-war” period. In that year, mankind took the road that would lead to the world massacre of 1939–1945. Several events are significant for the future evolution of Europe and the whole world: Germany’s decision to remilitarize the Rhineland; the French Popular’s Front’s victory in elections; the outbreak of the Civil War in Spain; the first show-trial in Moscow that marks the beginning of the Great Terror; and Nicolae Titulescu’s removal from the Romanian government. The author analyses these events and their interrelations.
