Summary/Abstract: Following the invasion of Budapest by the Soviet troops, Nagy Imre was forced to take refuge in the Yugoslav embassy and he was subsequently arrested by the Soviet troops and taken as prisoner to Romania, together with his entourage. Before Nagy Imre’s secret trial and his execution on June 15th 1958, he lived in a strange captivity, benefiting from luxurious detention conditions, and being at the same time subjected to the most varied psychic constraints, meant to shatter his balance and to induce the feeling of guilt, making him consider himself as a traitor of the “cause”. Their effect on the prisoner was followed not only through the “operational technique”, but also through the observations of those with whom the prisoner came into contact, who were all secret service agents. “Lettre Internationale”, the Romanian edition, is printing two reports of the Securitate secret police chosen from a wide selection of documents compiled by Ileana Ioanid and published in 2004 at the Polirom Publishing House.
