Summary/Abstract: Introduction: The paper points out the possibilities of using measurement and evaluation techniques in an effort to objectify the state of adaptation of the caregiver, identify predictors of burden, evaluate her subjective perception, respectively objective impacts of the burden, then set targeted intervention programs, monitor their effectiveness or changes over time. Aim: The aim of the paper is to provide an overview of the most used tools to objectify the burden of a non-professional caregiver with a focus on tools with well-documented psychometric properties. Methods: A short review study analyzes professional articles and studies published over a period of more than 20 years in free accessible databases (PuBMed, Google Scholar) and databases MEDLI NE, EBSCO , SCO PUS, ProQUE ST. By means of search using the keywords “caregiver burden, measurement tools, assessment, evaluation instruments “ and with a limited search to full texts of more than 300 studies related to the subject matter. A more detailed study based on exclusive criteria (duplication, qualification work) selected about 50 full texts closely specific to the topic. Results: They present the most used scales for objectification of the burden with a description of psychometric properties (Zarit Burden Interview, Caregiver Burden Inventory, Caregiver Reaction Assessment, Caregiver Strain Index, Modifiied Caregiver Strain Index, Cost of Care Index) Conclusion:This outline can serve as a theoretical framework for research or as a complementary method to other methods of clinical data collection. However, further research is needed to validate the scale in our conditions and in specific group of caregivers.
