Summary/Abstract: Linguistic practices accompanying socio-cultural insertion of immigrants in target societies is a major point of interest in the analysis of the contemporary migration phenomenon. In addition to social and economic problems posed by demographic flows that have characterized the post-war European society, the linguistic component became, gradually, an important element in the economy of the various tests applied to migration. Phenomena, such as code switching, code mixing, interlanguage, language loyality, language vitality etc. will now reshape the area of contact between languages, as a result of both: the magnitude and dynamics of migration flows, as well as new perspectives, marked interdisciplinary, applied to this area. One of the latest tools used in the analysis of linguistic dimension of migration is the linguistic biography, a fundamental method of migration socio-linguistics that can contribute to a better understanding of complex social and psycho-cognitive mechanisms accompanying the difficult route of immigrants’ adaptation to the new living conditions.
