Summary/Abstract: The Romanian community in Turin is one of the most numerous communities of recent immigrants in Italy, with powerful dynamics on a socio-economic and cultural level. The necessity of an on-the-spot radiography, namely an interdisciplinary study of that community was the starting point for a research project financed by the Romanian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The project was carried on by researchers from “A. Philippide” Institute of Romanian Philology – the Iasi Branch of The Romanian Academy, and from the University of Iasi and of Turin, in 2007 – 2008. In this article we present the general background of the project, its goals, the methods used during the field research as well as some partial results with a stress on the aspects that belong to the discursive practices and to the linguistic imaginary (attitudes, representations etc.) of the immigrants in an aloglot environment.
