Summary/Abstract: The paper focuses on the apparently harmless phrase Turkish Cemetery, which probably originates from the infidel non-Muslim population of the Balkans and analyzes two guidelines in which such an interpretation could have emerged and the perception of Muslim cemeteries in the eyes of other religions as well as Muslims themselves. The personal attitude of Muslims towards their cemeteries was also observed, as well as the possible questionable maintenance of the cemetery, which could have been potentially bad in one period of history. The paper primarily emphasizes the beauty and importance of the monuments, as well as the ambience of the Bosnian Muslim cemetery and the nisan monuments themselves as a rich cultural and historical heritage of Bosnia and Herzegovina. An overview of the transitional forms of nisan tombstones and stecak tombstones and their significance and importance as a world heritage site is also given. Tombstones in Bosnia and Herzegovina say much, much more than we can imagine at first glance, they speak of ancient times and the cohesion of several transnational influences and action.
