Summary/Abstract: The study aims at bringing to the fore the correspondence, extended over a long period of time, between Schwartz family, from Galati, and a number of Romanian and foreign cultural personalities from the end of the XIX-th century and the beginning of the XX-th. The correspondence was carried on with the goal of gathering a collection of autographs and photos. Among the personalities involved in this correspondence, we can find: Theodor Mommsen, Alfred Dreyfus, Emil Zola, Jules Verne, Anatot France, Mark Twain, Alexandre Dumas the Son, B Auerbach, Constantin I. Parhon, Constanţa Parhon, Mareelin Berthelot, Vasile Alexandrescu Urechia. Moreover, there is a number of letters holding a documentary value, such as those of Georg Brandes and of the actor Tommaso Salvini The present study was started in the special collections fund of "VA. Urechia " Library, from Galati, which comprises the letters received by Schwartz family. Later on, the research was also carried in the National Archives from Galaţi; there, we could gather some biographical information pertaining to the well-known family and also to the social and cultural context of that age.
