Summary/Abstract: The EU is facing a time of great challenges, amplified by the pandemic started in 2020. The Brexit, the temporary (?) cold relationship with the partner across the Atlantic, a significant phase of denial for the liberal democratic type of society, forced member states to start and develop large reflection processes as regards the future of the Union. In order to understand where we are heading to, we need to know our current position. The attraction of becoming an EU member consisted for a lot of Eastern European countries the tentative to solidly implement the Western way of life. Accordingly, this means, for sure, an accelerated development thus at a certain moment in time we get uniform living standard across the continent as a general rule. Have the EU countries and the Union itself been able to initiate and manage a viable process of economic convergence? This is the question for us to respond here.
