Summary/Abstract: An animal is a living entity. An animal is capable of feeling pain and suffering. In this article I will deal with the protection of pet animals and the animal breeder‘s obligation to ensure their wellfare. The submitted presents the recent legislation on animal protection in the Czech legal system, focusing on the duties of the animal breeder and preventing the existence of so-called „commercial breeding-puppy mills“ under the Veterinary Act and the Act on the Protection of Animals against Cruelty.
