Summary/Abstract: The author questions the concept of education in the context of the universal. The interpretation is based on two metaphors: one from Aristotle’s Posterior Analytics (an army in flight) and the other from Plato’s Republic (a slave in the cave). The main point of the paper is that pedagogy loses its importance, whenever the educational issues are not discussed in the light of serious problems. These, however, are usually universal and mysterious so that education understood as a modern science cannot reach their actual meaning. Furthermore, the real important issues in education are of a personal character. To have an opportunity to gain a sense of the problems, the educationalists need to be open to novelty and philosophical insights in their work, that is to say, they should be ready to experience into true “festival” in their life.Analytics (an army in flight) and the other from Plato’s Republic (a slave in the cave).
