Summary/Abstract: The movement of the Folk Festivals in Bulgaria is nowadays one of the forms for preservation and promotion of folklore and tradition. The text presents a short overview of the origin and development of Bulgarian folklore festivals – the first regional festival in Gramatikovo (1960) and the first national festival in Koprivshtitsa (1965). The main part of the text is dedicated to a regional festival, created in 1980 – in village of Cherni Vit, Teteven region. Its way is indicative for the “life” of folklore in modern times and the role of festivals for the reconstruction of tradition.
