Summary/Abstract: The text presents the song folklore of the community of Bulgarians in Golo Bardo, the Republic of Albania (on specific field material from the villages Steblevo, Klenye and Vormitsa), in the perspective of understanding the ethnic characteristic features of traditional songs. The notions of the Golo Bardo inhabitants have been presented about the ethnicity of the songs they perform, which respectively reflects the “self-image” they possess. This in its turn relates to their self-identification and self-manifestation as a different ethnic community within the Republic of Albania. The Bulgarian ethnic characteristic of the folk songs from Golo Bardo is of significance for the community, for reaffirming (or in some cases for the construing) of their ethnic identity. What is more important, is that this ethnic identification is inherited and the model of preservation of traditionally inherited knowledge of “Bulgarian” language, “Bulgarian” origin and not least “Bulgarian” songs in the collective memory functions as a central point consolidating the Bulgarian community in Albanian linguistic and cultural environment.
