"Bulgaria" in Vienna – Places, Music, Identities

Summary/Abstract: The text presents the places in Vienna (usually non-institutional) where Bulgarian music is present in some way – and especially Bulgarian folklore music in its different forms (not pretending to be thoroughly encompassing all such places). Their interpretation as a way to “project” Bulgaria in Vienna raises questions connected to preservation or establishment of national identity of the Bulgarians living in Vienna by means of music, too. The interest is mainly pointing towards the forms of self-organization coming up from the community as well as towards the forms of self-identification (both individual or collective).
