Summary/Abstract: The article identifies the key factors that determine the saving behavior of Poles in terms of securing healthcare needs in old age and refers to the concept of private and voluntary long-term care insurance offered by insurance companies with the support of the state. The database for the analyses presented in the study was the “Social Diagnosis” study conducted in 2015 on a representative sample of 11.7 thousand households in Poland. Research shows that the use of medical services influences their de- cisions regarding the accumulation of savings for treatment, and moreover, similar factors, regardless of the reason for saving, affect savings for retirement.
