Summary/Abstract: New technological developments have increased the use of different semiotic resources in didactic communication, multimodality plays in an important role in the teaching process. Our paper aims to present the main types of pedagogical gestures as well as their impact on the teaching/learning process of a foreign language. The information, animation and evaluation gestures have the role of helping the student in understanding a message and act as a non-verbal translation. On the other hand, the pedagogical gestures have a positive impact on memory and contribute to the creation of an emotional climate. For an effective use of the gesture, teachers must adapt it to the students’ age and cognitive development.
