Summary/Abstract: This paper explores Skovoroda’s metaphysics and ontology and reveals the fact that they are essential components of his ethical system not only as arguments for the latter but in many other ways. Ethics is but a consequence of the individual’s entering his own nature and structured reality. A type of ethics that is entrenched in metaphysics is frustrating because it cannot fulfill its aim of leading to happiness. Skovoroda’s ethics is not an abstract one as he does not believe that the simple observance of norms is a prerequisite for happiness.
