Summary/Abstract: A presentation of the personality and work of Filaretos Vatopedinos is made in this paper for the first time. His origin from Ismailovo (then Russia, today Moldavia), his translations and his contribution to the renovation of the Monastery as founder are detected in archival material and manuscripts from the Monastery of Vatopediou. Filaretos lived in the 19th century. He spent his life not only in Mount Athos but also in the Monastery (Vatopediou) dependencies. The life and work of Filaretos prove the historical spiritual bonds between the Monastery of Vatopediou with the Southern East Europe.
