Summary/Abstract: The article addresses the issue of the shared economy. The objective of the article is to provide an explanation of the main reasons for the rapid expansion of the shared economy and to highlight the advantages and disadvantages of the shared economy for society as a whole based on the examples of the Uber and Bolt internet-based companies. According to the author, one of the strengths of the shared economy lies in the sharing of unused capacity and assets that others are unable or do not wish to own. A further benefit lies in the fact that the shared economy exerts pressure on traditional market players, thus increasing the diversity and quality of the market. As far as the weaknesses of the shared economy are concerned, the author highlights problems with tax collection and the legal enforceability of any liabilities incurred as well as the fact that the shared economy leads to a decrease in demand in traditional markets.
