Summary/Abstract: The article concerns three Child Care Societies established in Vilnius at the beginning of the 20th century, by the communities of the Polish, Lithuanian and Jewish people. In the article, the primary issues, finances and work streams of those organizations since the 1914 were discussed. It has been highlighted that the institutional forms of the care and education of the poor children werein close association with the ideas of modernity and struggles for popularization of the national ideologies. In the research undertaken in the Polish and Lithuanian archives and libraries, the sources in Polish, Lithuanian and Russian language were studied.
