Summary/Abstract: The First World War was a crucial moment in the history of Romania, which disorganized all areas of interest in society, including education. During its development, the authorities tried to ensure the continuation of the teaching process, despite the fact that many teachers and students were mobilized, many civilians took refuge in Moldova, and in Bucharest some educational institutions temporarily changed their destination during military occupation. Despite the challenges of those years, it is worth mentioning the contribution of teachers and students to the conduct of military campaigns, as well as to the support of the war behind the front. In connection with the latter aspect, it is necessary to mention the effort of university professors to present abroad the political priorities of Romanians, thereby contributing to the creation of a current of opinion favorable to the liberation of the Romanian provinces under foreign domination. Last but not least, it is worth mentioning the efforts of teachers to preserve the material basis of schools, to continue teaching, to find solutions to restore normalcy more quickly in the entire education system.
