Summary/Abstract: In this paper, we are going to emphasize the difference between “ellipsis” and “eclipse”. The main aim is to show that the gaps from the “Fill in the gaps” exercises are eclipses and not ellipsis because with “ellipsis”, we can read a text naturally, whereas with “eclipses” we cannot read it coherently. We reconsidered the idea that “We assess what the student knows” and said that we assess what the student shows us he/she may know. We addressed a questionnaire to 202 students from the Faculty of Economics and Business Administration to prove that silence has a very important role in the assessment process.
