Aspects regarding the involvement of Bacău teachers in the activity of cultural and philanthropic societies (end of XIXth Century - beginning of XXth Century)

Summary/Abstract: An important role in Romanians fight for the economic and cultural emancipation, carried out at the end of the XIXth Century and the beginning of the XXth Century, it had cultural and philanthropic societies. Benefiting from the support of the teachers, the respective associations, which operated at national and local level, addressed various social categories regardless of gender, training or age. The present study presents how these societies, through their activities (establishment of libraries, adult schools, kindergartens, school canteens, helping the poor with clothing, footwear and food) have contributed to the intellectual, professional, moral, aesthetic and physical evolution of the Bacău’s citizens.
