Summary/Abstract: One of the current negative phenomena of translation studies (not only in our country) is the disorder of the conceptual apparatus. Significant differences in the use of terminology are the reason for insufficient precision of speech. Regardless of the reasons for this state of affairs, it is worth looking at the most annoying cases of this type and trying to organize the special terms. The paper contains such attempts in relation to Polish terms: ‘przekład’ vs. ‘tłumaczenie’ (both Eng. ‘translation’), ‘ekwiwalencja’ vs. ‘adekwatność’ (‘equivalence’ vs. ‘adequacy‘), equivalent vs. translat, realities vs. names of realities, invariant of translation.
