Summary/Abstract: An emblematic figure of the 18th century, Jean-Jacques Rousseau has given to the French (and universal) literature books that reveal the man and the writer. Our attention is based on ,,Confessions”, a plural writing, which represents the author himself, as a philosopher confronted with realities of his time, a man of letters, who made a great passion for books, religious man, in constant search of his faith. As a consequence, we propose a fine analysis of the ,,Confessions”, in order to discover the heterogeneous writing, which mixes elements of autobiography with the self-portrait.
