Summary/Abstract: Since 1989, when political democratization started in Central and East European countries, they have been experiencing a series of reforms in different social spheres. Their EU membership has created certain conditions favouring policy transfer of best practices from old EU member states. The processes of harmonization in the EU act only in certain areas. However, the very belonging to the union speeds the transfer of political ideas, programmes, types of organizational and social structures and expertise. Health care is a socio-political domain where EU members have preserved a wide autonomy of decisions with only very little supranational regulation.
